After about a month of diving into my project of becoming a content creator, I’ve realized something pretty big: if you have a Facebook account, you’re already a content creator. Seriously! Some people just don’t put in much effort because it’s not a big deal to them, or maybe they’re a little shy about posting and showing themselves.
My First Mission: Free Followers!
My first task was to try and get followers without spending any money or buying special tools. I just used what I already had. And guess what? It worked! In just two weeks, I got almost 150 new followers.
The “Follow for Follow” Game
To get followers quickly, I joined these “Follow for Follow” groups. The idea is simple: you follow someone, and they follow you back. I joined about three of them, but after the first week, they weren’t very helpful anymore.
My experience with the people in these groups wasn’t too bad, but here’s the catch: most of them just wanted you to follow them and engage with their stuff, but they didn’t want to do the same for you. And the thing is, you get paid based on how much people engage with your original posts.
My Strategy for Success
To deal with that, I made myself a schedule. I picked specific days to find new people to follow and other days to go back and unfollow the ones who weren’t playing fair.
It’s pretty easy to spot those people: they’ll have like 6,000 followers but only be following 20 people themselves. I don’t bother following them.
There’s the obvious reason they’re just trying to get followers, but also, their content is usually pretty random. I can’t stand accounts that are always negative, or constantly arguing, or trying too hard to be funny. It gets old fast.
So, here’s how I break down my week:
Every Day: I engage with people’s posts.
- Monday & Tuesday: I look for new people to follow and follow back anyone who followed me.
- Wednesday – Saturday: I check who has commented on or engaged with my posts, and I send them “stars” (a way to show appreciation on some platforms) and engage back with their content.
- Sunday: This is my “clean-up” day. I unfollow anyone who didn’t follow me back from the previous week.
I don’t unfollow people who didn’t unfollow me, even if they don’t engage much. I just don’t engage with them as often. They still pop up on my feed sometimes, and I might “like” a post here and there, but engagement is the most important thing!
